Research

UCPH SUND and SSI carry out considerable research in the field of serious infectious livestock diseases, zoonoses, animal health and new threat scenarios included in the veterinary contingency plans, .ie. with focus on important aspects regarding diagnostics, surveillance and control of these diseases. Denmark is free from serious infectious livestock diseases, so it is important that research provides knowledge of  and experienced in the clinical and all diagnostic aspects of these agents.  This is achieved through studies of the agent and the  agent/host mechanisms in virulence and pathogenesis studies.

In order to facilitate professional coordination, DK-VET has established the following 5 professional network groups. Participants in these groups are flexible over time depending on the current issues:

  1. Severe contagious livestock diseases. Coordinator: Lecturer Anette Boklund.
  2. Avian influenza, other zoonotic and enzootic virus infections. Coordinator: Professor Lars E. Larsen.
  3. Antibiotic resistance and bacterial infections. Coordinator: Lecturer Peter Panduro Damborg.
  4. Parasitic zoonotic diseases in animals and diseases in wildlife. Coordinator: Professor Stig Thamsborg.
  5. Diseases in fish, crustaceans, and bivalve mollusks (in collaboration with DTU Aqua). Coordinator: Professor Kurt Buchman.
