Aquatic diseases
The Laboratory of Aquatic Pathobiology (LAP) at KU-SUND has established cooperation with the section for fish diseases at DTU (DTU Aqua). The Danish Centre for Aquatic Health is under the framework of the Danish Veterinary Consortium with a view on the broad coverage of aquatic health in Denmark.
LAP handles special consultancy services on prevention and treatment of parasitic diseases in aquatic organisms. Focus is on parasitic diseases in farmed and wild fish stocks, including occurrence of zoonotic parasites in fish products and in marine mammals. Advice is provided on the question of zoonotic diseases associated with molluscs (snails), such as cercariel dermatitis (swimmer's itch).
Additionally, LAP advises the industry on the immune responses of aquatic animals and the optimised use of vaccines for fish.
